But there is more to this talented performer than just the glitter of Hollywood. Alba has chosen to develop a guide to living a non-toxic life titled “The Honest Life.”
Naturally Savvy reported that Alba is already an eco-friendly celebrity who stocks her closet with organic bamboo bedding. She recently launched The Honest Company, a website that sells toxin-free domestic and baby products.
“(My favorite thing to do with my time is to) work on Honest.com,” she told Green Earth News via In Touch magazine. “It is really a labor of love, as we plan on evolving as a brand. I’m always searching for the best nontoxic, eco-friendly products for baby, children and home ,and thinking of ways to innovate in those areas through function and design.”
“The Honest Life,” co-written with her business partner Christopher Gavigan, is scheduled to release in 2013. Publishing company Rodale says: “THE HONEST LIFE will offer lifestyle tips on how to create a non-toxic home; from design tips to some of Alba’s favorite family recipes; beauty tips that will include ‘home made’ treatments to incorporate into your routine; simple, fun DIY family projects; tips on making sure your home is filled with only the purest of materials; and inexpensive ways to find your own authentic style.”
Alba was quoted in the press release: “When I became a mom, I wanted to learn everything I could about living healthfully and happily, and shielding my family from unwanted chemicals,” says Alba. “And I want to help other parents learn to do it, easily and inexpensively. That’s what The Honest Life is all about.”
According to Natural Savvy, Alba not only talks the talk, but also walks the walk — in preparing for the birth of her second child, Alba re-finished second-hand furniture for the baby’s room. “I use stains and paints that are eco-friendly and safe,” she explains, demonstrating how important her environmental crusade has become to her.
And, according to Green Earth Bamboo, Alba “stocks her linen closet with organic bedding made from bamboo including duvet covers, bamboo sheet sets and even bamboo towels! And why not choose bamboo? Not only is it a sustainable product, growing to maturity in a few short years, but it requires none of the pesticides, herbicides and additional irrigation necessary to grow cotton.”
Green and Clean Mom says Alba is “a mom of two who partnered with Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families to raise awareness to the dangers of toxic harmful chemicals in consumer products and because I’ve also joined the cause, I think this is pretty nifty!”
And Alba wrote in Democracy in Action: “We need a steady drumbeat of American moms telling Congress to fight for the safety of your family. Join me today in asking Congress for common-sense limits on toxic chemicals.”
So let’s celebrate this talented actress and inspiring new Mom. For doing her part to get chemicals out of the environment and make the world a greener place, we think she’s Fantastic!
